Road bike holiday in the Ore Mountains

The name alone sounds like an adventure: Ore Mountains. Here you will find yourself between high-speed asphalt thrills and dusty gravel experiences. The road cycling region in Saxony, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2019, surprises with geological and historical highlights along roads with little traffic. The unique cultural landscape on the German-Czech border offers road cyclists a variety of options on a metal platter.

Heart lost to the Ore Mountains

The most famous route for a racing bike holiday in the Ore Mountains covers 290 km, 4,900 m of altitude, 13 tough ramps and 2 countries. It is not for nothing that the Stoneman Miriquidi Road is considered to be extremely challenging and combines centuries of mining tradition with the competitive sports legacy of the mining region. Long before the bikers, miners dominated the cross-border mining region. We don't have to go underground to seek our fortune, but simply head into the 290-kilometre network of trails that stretches right across the Czech Cheb trench and over the Ore Mountain ridge. Or get off the tarmac and onto a dusty gravel adventure. The biker's life is like the miner's life in the old days: hard and demanding. Instead of gold, silver and platinum, however, we are striving for the Stoneman, the BLOCKLINE or the Kammtour.

But it's worth digging a little deeper on a racing bike holiday in the Ore Mountains. The fascinating 150 km mountain border between Germany and the Czech Republic, which stretches from the western border of Saxony to the Elbe, is full of centuries of mining history. And decades of road cycling history. The Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří mining region, which was long considered the centre of mining in Europe, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2019.
